KCR unveils Safe City Project
Hyderabad : Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao unveiled his concept of Safe City Project (SCP) under which Hyderabad city would be equipped with ultra-modern surveillance gadgets and instantaneous response systems that would enable the city's electronic eye to keep a thorough watch every minute.
Sharing his vision of tight and fool-proof security across the city, he said that CC TV systems of colonies, private organisations and government organisations should be integrated with police monitoring systems as part of the SCP.
Strong security systems should be set up with the participation of public and private organisations as well as people. The city should be the world's 'best secured metro' using information technology fully, he suggested.
The Chief Minister interacted with GMR group representatives who met him at the Secretariat to present their plans for setting up a London-type security system in Hyderabad under the SCP. They discussed the security apparatus in various cities all over the world.
The project has been designed by the Raksha Security System, being run by the GMR group. They outlined the interplay of CC cameras, sensors, alarm systems, data storage, video analytics systems, communication network, and command control systems.
The Chief Minister wanted a system customised for the city, after a study of the security systems followed all over the world. 'Urbanisation would be accompanied by problems like traffic snarls, rise in the density of the population, agitations, atrocities on women and anti-social activities. We must focus on curtailing them,' the chief minister observed.
Considering the city would have 4G connectivity, technology must be used to the hilt for surveillance, the Chief Minister suggested. It would be better to divide the city into 10 zones for keeping an eye on every part and the command control system should work effectively.
Modern technology should be used to protect people, curtail atrocities on women, control traffic jams and prevent stampedes. As GHMC, MMTS and RTC had individual surveillance systems, they all should be integrated with the police systems, he said.
GMR representatives suggested the use of 3D mapping and expressed the company's readiness to work with the city police to strengthen security and surveillance systems in the city.
