GHMC goes overdrive; more structures razed HYDERABAD: Cracking the whip against unauthorised buildings in the city, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has demolished as many as 25 buildings in two days.
The corporation has identified nearly 900 buildings which are unauthorized and has started taking up demolitions in all the 18 circles. While six buildings were demolished on Tuesday, the corporation brought down another 19 buildings on Wednesday.
Commissioner Somesh Kumar asserted that it was incorrect to say the corporation was only concentrating on smaller buildings leaving aside the bigger ones.
The Commissioner clarified that the owners of below 200 sq.yds are taking permissions for G+ 1 building and constructing the buildings 2 to 3 floors unauthorisedly for which the GHMC has taken up the demolitions in a phased manner by identifying the worst violated buildings.
Since Tuesday more than 100 calls have been received by the GHMC Call Centre with regard to complaints about unauthorized constructions in various parts of the city.
The corporation is making a note of those grievances and directions are being given to the concerned Assistant City Planners for verifying the same to take up the demolitions on priority, he said.
The Commissioner appealed to the citizens while representing their grievances through the Call Centre 24x7 040 - 21 11 11 11 should furnish the details of the unauthorized buildings/dilapidated buildings such as premises No., area, landmark etc., so that the GHMC can initiate action immediately.
The Commissioner requested the citizens not to construct the buildings without obtaining permission as the GHMC has made the issue of building permissions much easier when compared to that of old system.
