Eight border checkposts between AP and Telangana
HYDERABAD: In order to collect maximum revenues through inter-state flow of vehicles and goods, the cash-starved Andhra Pradesh government has decided to set up eight temporary border checkposts.
Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat here on Wednesday, finance minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu said the proposed checkposts would come up on Hyderabad-Kurnool road (at Kurnool), Kalwakurthy-Srisailam road (Sunnipenta), Mancherial-Devarakonda road (Macherla), Miryalaguda-Ongole road (Dachepalli), Nandigama-Hyderabad road (Garikapadu), Khammam-Vijayawada road (Thiruvur), Khammam-Rajamundry road(Jeedugumalli) and on Khammam-Vijayawada road at Kondapalli.
He said that these checkposts will be useful in not only keeping a check on tax evaders but also in assessing the quantum and value of commodities passing through the state.
In addition to these checkposts minor roads that link the two states would be manned by squads and vigilance wings of the commercial tax department to stop trade diversions and pilferage of taxes, he said.
Ramakrishnudu said the temporary checkposts would be primarily for a period of six months. 'Staff will be deployed from the existing personnel of the department. Based on the performance of these checkposts, arrangements will be made to establish permanent ones with all facilities,' he added.
In the undivided State of Andhra Pradesh there were 12 checkposts, of which six of them -Thetakunta, Garikapadu, Renigunta, Shapur, Kamareddy and Palvancha are internal checkposts.
According to officials, one acre of land would be required for establishing each checkpost, which will be equipped with computers, generators and a weigh bridge. Nearly Rs 15 lakh would be spent on setting up each checkpost, besides land acquisition cost, the finance minister said.
