Kamineni visits proposed sites for AIIMS
GUNTUR: Minister for health and family welfare Kamineni Srinivas has said that the state government will finalise the place for setting up of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the district and added that the proposals for establishment of a cancer hospital in 10 acres land, near Chinakakani, will be submitted to the government soon.
The minister, along with Narasapur MP Gokaraju Ganga Raju, inspected the land belonging to the TB Sanatorium at Mangalagiri and the sites of the VGTM-UDA on the Navuluru Road, near Mangalagiri, Thursday.
Speaking to reporters after the inspection, the health minister said that setting up of AIIMS requires Rs 1,200 crore to `1,500 crore and added that the Centre has already allotted Rs 125 crore for the purpose.
'We have asked the officials to furnish the details of the lands in two days as chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu is keen on the establishment of the institution at the earliest,' he said and added they have inspected 180 acres of land at the TB sanatorium and 80 acres of UDA land.
It is said that the state government wants to set up the AIIMS that is fully connected with road, rail and air connectivity for the benefit of the people of 13 districts in the state.
The AIIMS will have a 500-bed hospital and a 100-seat medical college initially. A nursing college will also be set up along with AIIMS and over a period of time the seats and beds pertaining to the institution will be increased, the minister added.
District collector Kantilal Dande, VGTM-UDA vice-chairperson P Usha Kumari, incharge RDO Murali and other officials accompanied the minister.
