Ramudu among 9 shortlisted for DGP HYDERABAD: Will in-charge Director General of Police (DGP) of Andhra Pradesh, JV Ramudu, who is due to retire by this month-end, get an extension?
Even as police circles are discussing the possibility of Ramudu getting an extension by another three months, the process of sending the list of names of IPS officers, one of whom would be shortlisted for the post of DGP, to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is underway.
Names of nine IPS officers, including that of Ramudu, have been sent to the Union Public Service Commission recently.
The Andhra Pradesh P government is now awaiting UPSC to revert after it shortlists three names. The government will then select one among the three for the top post.
Sources said bio-datas of the officers and service records have reached the UPSC office. 'The particulars of those officers who are on central deputation have also been sent to the UPSC,' they said.
It is learnt that the names of officers in the 1979 batch and those in 1981 batch, including Ramudu, have been sent to UPSC.
Though police circles have been discussing whether Ramudu would get a two-year extension, as per the Supreme Court guidelines, government sources indicated that, normally, All-India Services officers are given only three-month extension. Ramudu was appointed as in-charge DGP of residuary state of AP on June 2.
