12 smart cities to come up in AP
HYDERABAD: Following Union finance minister Arun Jaitely mentioning about the Visakhapatnam-Chennai industrial corridor project in his budget speech, the Andhra Pradesh government has started focusing on the development of industrial corridor.
Speaking to reporters, municipal administration and urban development minister P Narayana said that his government would give top priority to the development of industrial corridors in the state. The state can develop only when there is industrial development and hence the government had decided to focus on developing industrial corridors across the state.
He said that the industrial corridors across the state would be of immense benefit to the state as it would help in generating not only revenue but also employment.
He said that along with industrial corridors the state would also focus on setting up smart cities in the state to maintain balance between all the regions of the state. 'The state will have 12 smart cities,' he said.
In order to reduce power consumption the state government was planning to replace all the streetlights with LED tubes and bulbs, the minister said adding that to begin with all the streetlights in three districts of the state would be replaced by LEDs. This will help local bodies in saving lot of power and increase their revenue,' he pointed out.
He said that in next four days the selection of three districts for the pilot project would be done. The state government had announced that it would provide 24/7 power supply to domestic and industrial consumers of the state from October 2.
