OU students protest Harish's 'high-handedness' HYDERABAD: Protesting against the high-handed behaviour of irrigation minister T Harish Rao when a student delegation met him requesting the government to reconsider its decision on regularisation of contract employees, students of Osmania University on Sunday took out a rally from Arts College to Tarnaka Circle.
Tension prevailed when the police tried to disperse the agitating crowd even before they exited the university premises.
Earlier, a 50-member delegation comprising leaders of several student organisations tried to submit a memorandum to Harish and education minister G Jagadish Reddy while the duo were participating in a programme at a college.
Students alleged that Harish abused them when when they tried to apprise of the difficulties unemployed youth were likely to face if the government goes ahead with its decision to regularise contract staff.
'It is unbecoming of a minister to use filthy language against students who tried to voice their problems. Further he kicked some of us,' alleged Kadiyam Raju, ABVP leader in Osmania University.
Aggrieved over the treatment meted out to them, the students decided to organise a protest after returning to the university. Charminar inspector A Yadagiri said he was only aware about the ministers' visit to City College.
