Chattisgarh, TS talks over power deal
Raipur: With Chhattisgarh agreeing to sell 1000 MW power to Telangana, a delegation from the newly-formed State comprising energy secretary and other officials will arrive here on Wednesday to hold talks pertaining to the fixation of power price and transmission corridor. The two states will also discuss over terms and conditions of power purchase agreement (PPA).
Chhattisgarh is selling power to Telangana under the provisions of its Electricity Act 2003. It is learnt that Chhattisgarh will start getting about 4000 MW additional power in next four months as a couple of private power plants are likely to start generation by that time.
In a bid to deal power crisis in the country, the Centre had recently directed relevant ministries and State governments to clear all the roadblocks for rapid completion of new power plant projects.
In last eight years or so, Chhattisgarh, which is emerging as new power hub of the country, had signed pact with new power plants to generate about 50,000 MW power. Majority of these power plants are setting up in Korba, Janjgir-Champa and Raigarh districts.
According to information, two units of Korba West with capacity to generate 600 MW power each is on verge of completion and is likely to start generation from October. Another plant being set up by GMR with 685 MW too is about to commence generation.
Besides, three units of Jindal Steel and Power Limited with generation capacity of 600 MW each and 1200 MW DB Power are likely to be functional by the year end. Sources informed that several private plants had also completed power purchase agreement (PPA) with other states.
According to memorandum of understanding signed by the power plants with Chhattisgarh government, they would have to provide 7.5 per cent power at cost price to the State and would be free to sell the remaining electricity.
