BJP shuts door on Viyayashanti

Hyderabad: Bharatiya Janata Party is learnt to have shut the door on former MP M Vijayasanthi and former MLA T Jayaprakash Reddy, leaders of Congress party, who made a desperate attempt to switch their loyalties to the saffron party.

The ground for rejection of their application to join the BJP is said to be their defeat in the previous general elections. Both the leaders eyed on the Medak MP seat which had fall vacant due to the resignation of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao upon his election to the Assembly as MLA.

Vijayasanthi joined the Congress just before the general election to get the party ticket from Medak Parliamentary seat. However, the Congress denied it and asked her to contest for the MLA seat on behalf of the party. She lost the election.

Similarly, Jayaprakash Reddy, better known as Jagga Reddy, has also lost the election from Sangareddy constituency from the Congress due to the TRS wave in Medak district.

Sources said both Vijayashanti and Jagga Reddy had lobbied with the BJP leadership to gain entry into the party so as to continue their political career successfully. Both of them aspired to get the BJP ticket for Medak Lok Sabha seat.

In the last elections, the BJP contested the Medak LS elections as part of pre-poll alliance with the Telugu Desam Party. They were of the hope that the BJP would contest the by-elections again as part of the same alliance.

However, the BJP leadership reportedly rejected their pleas. BJP state president G Kishan Reddy felt that since they were defeated in the previous elections, they might not be in position to become strong contenders and could not add strength to the party.

There are speculations in the party circles that Kishan Reddy himself might throw his hat into the ring for Medak MP seat. Reddy wants to play a key role at the Centre, since his party was in power there. Kishan Reddy stayed away from the Assembly floor leader post and preferred K Laxman for it.

Interestingly, both Vijayasanthi and Jagga Reddy were with the BJP in the past. They still have good relations with the national leaders of it. Both of them are not comfortable with their current position in Telangana Congress.

They are not sure about bright prospects for that party since no elections are there in the near future. They fear that if they continue to be politically idle for some more years, may lose the clout in their respective constituencies and grip in the politics of the state.
