Eye on GHMC polls, TRS woos leaders from other parties Hyderabad : With an aim to set up its base in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi has decided to speed up its 'Operation Akarsh' inviting the corporators from the Congress and Telugu Desam parties.
The party decided to concentrate on building the party in the city and claim the mayor's post. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and other TRS party leaders met at the residence of TRS Secretary-General K Keshav Rao's residence here on Sunday.
According to sources, the talking point of the meeting was to speed up the Operation Aakarsh to attract corporators from the TDP and Congress thereby stake claim over the mayor's post winning maximum corporators in the 150 ward-Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.
After over six hours of meeting, Keshav Rao talking to the media said the leaders discussed on how to strengthen the party in the GHMC. He said that the TRS leaders were gathered at his residence to mark completion of two months of government.
The TRS leader refused to disclose the deliberations in the meeting. The TRS leader said that his government would fulfill all the promises made during elections.
The party has taken a decision and it would take time to make policy decision, he said. He said that there was no rivalry between the Telangana government and the Andhra Pradesh and added that it was only the media which was showing rivalry.
The TRS MP demanded that the Centre to form separate High Court for Telangana. He said that the party would raise this issue in Parliament and pressurize the government on this issue on Monday. The TRS presently has three MLAs in the Greater Hyderabad area and negligible presence in the present corporation.
Sources said that more than 15 corporators of TDP in the city are looking to join TRS. Similarly, there are several other Congress corporators expressed their desire to join the ruling party.
Earlier, the party had given a helping hand to the Majlis-e Ittehadul Muslimeen giving an indication of going with the party in GHMC elections. The party is expected to have alliance with the MIM in the Greater elections, said political analysts.
