Ship captain's SOS creates a furore at Vizag port VISAKHAPATNAM: A Mumbai-based merchant vessel was anchored at the iron ore berth of the Outer Harbour of the Visakhapatnam Port after its captain reportedly has sought the help of the Indian Coast Guard and Navy to save his life from his own crew.
According to sources, the captain belongs to Punjab. He informed the Indian Coast Guard and Navy that members of his own crew were trying to kill him. Navy officials immediately directed the port authorities to berth the ship which was supposed to be berthed in the Inner Harbour for loading steel.
The sources said the Naval and Coast Guard officials rushed into the ship to check the complaint of the captain. However, the officials found the captain in distress and informed the ship owner about the same. Later, the ship owner informed the officials that a new captain will be drafted for duty, the sources said.
