KCR's grand plan: Rs 25K Cr water grid KARIMNAGAR: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao spoke like a man on a mission as he announced several key initiatives during his maiden visit to Karimnagar which include making Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) a global firm and laying water grid to quench thirst of every household in Telangana at an investment of Rs 25,000-30,000 crore in the next four years.
After a review with officials here on Tuesday, Chandrasekhar Rao said that SCCL, which has more than 160 years of history, should not confine itself to Telangana but expand overseas by acquiring coalmines in countries like Australia.
'Even small private companies are acquiring coalmines abroad. Why shouldn't a giant like SCCL expand operations overseas?' he sought to know. After expansion, SCCL would be able to provide employment to at least one lakh people in Telangana and abroad.
'We will buy the central government's stake in SCCL so that it would be completely a Telangana institution,' he said and added that SCCL would set up a medical college and establish a modern hospital on the lines of NIMS in Hyderabad.
Referring to the water grid, the Chief Minister said that he was making the announcement in Karimnagar because he has sentimental attachment to the district.
'The project would begin from Nalgonda and extended to the entire state.' KCR said that preliminary estimates say that 160 tmcft water would be required for supplying to all the households in the state. It has been decided to draw 80 tmcft water from Krishna river and remaining 89 tmcft from the Godavari.
'One lakh km of water pipelines would be laid for supply of water to all the households. The existing water supply schemes would be integrated into the grid.'
FORGET Karimnagar, SAY LONDON
Karimnagar would be developed into a city that would look as grand as London and New York. KCR said there would be a ring road, four-lane roads, another Brindavan Gardens in 300 acres at LMD and luxury cruises in LMD.
'Karimnagar would be developed in such a way that no one would have thought it's possible.' Similarly, Warangal, Khammam and Nizamabad would also be developed, he added.
