Farmers happy as Ngarjuna Sagar gets inflows HYDERABAD: The steady inflows into Nagarjuna Sagar from Srisailam reservoir has brought cheer among the people in Nagarjuna Sagar ayacut. For the last couple of days, the inflows have been good. On Thursday, the inflows stood at 52,514 cusecs.
Water level in the reservoir stood at 518.80 feet against the FRL of 590 ft. On the same day last year, the water levels were climbing at 585.40 ft. With increasing inflows, the waters were let out from the Nagarjuna Sagar downstream on Wednesday.
The outflow was 11,594 cusecs on Thursday. According to Nagarjuna Sagar project officials, the outflows in the right canal were at 5,968 cusecs, in left canal at 4,029 cusecs and for SLBC the outflow was recorded at 1,800 cusecs.
However, the water levels in Nagarjuna Sagar and the outflows from the project are not enough to power the turbines at the project to generate power.
Nagarjuna Sagar has eight turbines, which can generate 1,236 million units per day on an average. Officials said only after the water levels cross 560 ft mark, can all the eight turbines function. Meanwhile, power production at the hydro power project of Srisailam is going in full steam with steady outflows from the project.
