Metro Rail on track; completes test run HYDERABAD: People of Nagole and Uppal had the first glimpse of Hyderabad Metro Rail chugging on the main tracks between Nagole and Survey of India as Korean-based Hyundai-Rotterdam which is supplying the model coaches for Metro Rail project carried out a functional acceptability test (FAT) on Thursday.
Chief Executive and Managing Director of L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Ltd VB Gadgil made it clear that they were not carrying out any trial runs but only functional acceptability tests.
'Before going for trial runs, the Korean-based company has to carry out a series of important tests that include track, communication, safety, track alignment, surface, electrical traction, fail safe pneumatic emergency air braking, seating arrangements and several other engineering and safety tests.
Only after passing these important tests, we will go for trial runs in a few months,' Gadgil said. As the electrification between Nagole and Survey of India was completed, FAT was carried out.
Hyundai-Rotterdam company which bagged the `1,800-crore rolling stock order from LTHMRL had dispatched four model coaches to Hyderabad a few months ago. An engineering team from Korea which is in the city since the last few months is closely monitoring these tests.
Since one month, several tests were being carried out inside the Uppal Metro Rail depot. After completing the functional tests, the coaches were transported on to the elevated tracks a few days ago. 'If they satisfy all the tests, then only the vendor will get the clearance,' Gadgil said.
Hyderabad Metro has gone for the latest communication-based train control (CBTC) technology for the first time in India.
