Venkaiah blasts KCR for 'Fascist' remark on Modi HYDERABAD: Taking exception to Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao describing Prime Minister Narendra Modi as 'fascist', Union minister for urban development and senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu termed the remark as highly objectionable and said the AP Reorganisation Act is an Act of Parliament which the state is bound to implement in letter and spirit.
'The Act is an Act of Parliament. How can any responsible politician say that abiding by it is an act of 'fascism'?' the Union minister questioned.
After participating in the 'Raksha Bandhan' celebrations, organised by the women's wing of the party's state unit at the BJP office here on Saturday, Venkaiah Naidu said the Centre was just implementing Section 8 of the AP Reorganisation Act.
Section 8 of the Act states that the governor shall have special responsibility for the security of life, liberty and property of all those who reside in the common capital for the purposes of administration.
It also states that the governor, in discharge of his functions, should exercise his individual judgement after consulting the council of ministers.
Moreover, the Act was proposed and passed by the previous UPA government and its draft Bill was circulated to all parties in Parliament before it was passed. At that time, all parties, including the TRS, welcomed it and celebrated, he pointed out.
'KCR should not forget that Telangana came into existence through the same Act and opposing the provisions is not in the right spirit,' Venkaiah Naidu said and demanded the chief minister to immediately withdraw his remark.
He was of the opinion that federalism does not just mean cooperation between the Centre and the states but also suggests that the states cooperate among themselves.
Advising the leadership of both -- Telangana and Andhra Pradesh -- to concentrate on the development of Telugus, the Union minister said creating controversies out of everything will not be of help and issues should be sorted out amicably.
Coming down heavily on the Congress, Venkaiah Naidu said that the Congress and few other parties were creating hurdles in passing Bills in the Rajya Sabha.
