TS Govt stakes claim on Tourism Institute Hyderabad, Aug 11 (INN): The Telangana Government on Monday claimed its rights over the National Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management (NITHM).
'NITHM is a registered society for Tourism and Hospitality Management, Training and Research established by State Government with the help of Ministry of Tourism, Government of India.
As per the AP reorganization Act 2014 and as per section 75, the institute is listed at Sl.No.100 in 10th schedule. The institute is situated in Hyderabad and as per the provisions of the Act the institute which is physically located in Telangana will be managed by Telangana state where it is located.
Its services will also be offered to the successor state i.e. Andhra Pradesh on mutually agreed terms,' Chief Secretary Dr Rajiv Sharma said in a press release issued by the Chief Minister's Office.
Similarly, for instance the Pragada Kotayya Memorial Indian Institute of Textile Technology being situated in Nellore belongs to the State of Andhra Pradesh. By the same logic and provision of law the NITHM belongs to Telangana State, the Chief Secretary said.
Rajiv Sharma said that the Government of Telangana on August 6 has appointed the Prl. Secy. to Government, Tourism and Culture of Telangana as Chairman of the institute and in his capacity he has also conducted a Governing Council meeting on the same day.
'Against this backdrop the erstwhile officer namely the Spl. Chief Secretary to AP Govt. cannot continue to be the head of this institute said the Chief Secretary,' he said.
