EAMCET verification begins tomorrow HYDERABAD: Ending months of uncertainty over commencement of counselling for admission of students to engineering colleges in Telangana, the Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) announced that the process of verification of certificates of students will begin on August 14 and end on August 23.
The AP State Council of Higher Education began verification of certificates on August 7 itself at 34 centres in Andhra Pradesh. The process will go on till August 23.
At Hyderabad, certificates of Telangana students seeking admission to colleges in special quota, including sports, NCC and physically challenged, began the same day but verification of the certificates of Telangana students in general category was kept pending.
Now that the schedule has been announced, it means that exercise of web options by students of both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for colleges of their choice will commence after August 23 in accordance with the order of the Supreme Court issued on Tuesday that the admissions have to be done strictly in conformity with the provisions of the AP Reorganisation Act-2014 and Article 371-D.
After the Supreme Court delivered its judgment rejecting the plea of the Telangana government for time till October 31 for completing the admissions process, the Telangana cabinet discussed the issue at length since commencement of web options after August 23 means that the government will have to clear the names of the colleges to be included in the counselling process immediately.
The government also issued guidelines of Financial Assistance for Students of Telangana, a scheme brought in place of fee reimbursement and conveyed them to TSCHE so that the officials would know what certificates to verify.
The engineering colleges want the government to clear all arrears to them before the admissions are made to their colleges after August 23.
TSCHE has become proactive after it has been constituted and Prof T Papi Reddy appointed its chairman. TSCHE wants to conduct counselling on its own since the nodal agency - JNTU-H is in Hyderabad, Telangana territory.
The technical education departemnt issued a notification to this effect late on Tuesday night. Said Papi Reddy: 'The admission process will be completed before the end of this month as ordered by the Supreme Court.'
