SVIMS management meets Chandrababu
Hyderabad, Aug 14 (INN): In a high-level meeting with Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) authorities, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu discussed the development and fee structure of SVIMS.
The Chief Minister and the college authorities decided that SVIMS would have 15% NRI quota where the fee would be US $20,000, 15% quota for non-local with a fee of Rs. 60,000 and the remaining 70% of the seats would be available for locals at a fee of Rs 60,000 per year.
He also advised the college management to make SVIMS one of the best medical institutes in India. He suggested that the governing board could constitute medical experts from anywhere across the world.
Chandrababu Naidu said that lessons could be held through video conferences and an exchange program be introduced so that experts from medical colleges across the world could teach at SVIMs-affiliated Padmavati Medical College.
He suggested that the college should have a gamut of medical courses ranging from nursing, dental, paramedical and research for it to gain a deemed university status in future.
Assuring the support of the State government, the Chief Minister said that the institute should hold a governing body meeting every three months.
He said that SVIMS-affiliated colleges too should have high-quality education. Elaborating on Tirupati's development, he added that the city should be developed into a educational, knowledge and religious tourism hub.
The Chief Minister instructed that Tirupati should be developed into a world-class city with proper toilets and basic amenities for which the state government would provide assistance.
Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas, Principal Secretary-Health LV Subrahmanyam, SVIMS Director B Vengamma, TTD Executive Officer MG Gopal and others were present.
