KCR distributes cash prizes among sports persons Hyderabad, Aug 15 (INN): Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Friday gave cash prizes to sports personalities of Telangana who won medals in different sports events.
The sports persons were honoured with a shawl, a citation and cheques ranging from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 50 lakh during the Independence Day celebrations at Golconda Fort.
Badminton star Saina Nehwal was given two cheques of Rs 50 lakh and Rs 20 lakh for Bronze Medal in London Olympics and Gold in Australian Open Series Singles Title.
Similarly, Gagan Narang was given three cheques of Rs 50 lakh, Rs 25 lakh and Rs 15 lakh for Bronze Medal in Shooting in London Olympics, Silver in CWG 2014 - 50 M Rifle Prone and third position in 50 M Rifle respectively.
Badminton star Parupalli Kashyap was presented with two cheques of Rs 50 lakh for Gold in Men's Singles CWG 2014 and Rs 25 lakh for Q/F in Olympics in Men's Single 2012.
Likeswise, PV Sindhu got cheques of Rs 25 lakh and Rs 15 lakh for Bronze in World Cup Championship 2013 and Bronze Women's Singles CWG 2014. While Jwala Gutta was given a prize of Rs 25 lakh for Silver medal in Women's Doubles in CWG, R.V. W. Guru Saidutt got Rs 15 lakh for Bronze Men's Singles in CWG 2014.
Likewise, Nikhat Zareen was presented with Rs 50 lakh for winning Gold in World International Women's Boxing, Rs 15 lakh was given to Kabaddi World Cup 2013 Gold Medalist Mamata Pujari. Srikanth Kidmbri (Badminton) and B Aruna Reddy (Gymnastics) were given Rs 3 lakh each for their participation in international sports. Badminton coaches ' Pullela Gopichand and Mohd Arif were also given Rs 50 lakh and Rs 25 lakh respectively.
Malavath Poorna and Anand Kumar, who recently climbed Mount Everest, received Rs 25 lakh each while their trainer Shekhar Babu was also presented with a cheque of Rs 25 lakh. Malavath and Anand got standing ovation from the crowd when they received the cheque from the Chief Minister.
