Not shifting to Vijayawada now: Naidu
HYDERABAD: Amidst increasing demand from certain quarters to shift state administration from Hyderabad to Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday dropped enough hints that he has no plans to shift his camp office to Vijayawada in the near future.
Speaking to reporters after releasing a white paper on the impact of state reorganisation at his residence here, Naidu said he was aware that people from both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are asking him to shift the state administration to Vijayawada, but as of now he has no plans to shift his camp office.
'Here I am operating from Lake View Guest House and if I shift my camp office to Vijayawada there too I have to operate from a government guest house. So, how it is going to help?' he asked.
Taking exception to a few leaders from Telangana asking him to shift to Vijayawada, he said: 'When and where I have to shift my office I know it very well and I will take a decision on it at an appropriate time. No one has the right to ask me to shift from Hyderabad to another place,' he remarked.
Commenting on the demand from the Rayalaseema region for making Kurnool as capital of the new state, the AP chief minister ruled out the possibility of Kurnool being made the capital.
'There is no question of Kurnool being made the capital of the state as it is not an ideal location to be considered for the purpose,' he said.
'Kurnool cannot be made capital of the state as it is not centrally located. We would choose a place which is not only centrally located and has good connectivity and infrastructure,' he said.
'As chief minister, I might want to locate the new capital in my Chittoor district, but I am not doing so as it is not correct. We should understand the situation and the need of the hour and behave responsibly. Those who want Kurnool to be made capital should decide whether they want development or like to play politics,' he said.
He said the government has plans for Kurnool's development, including setting up of an industrial city on 30,000 acres and a modern airport. He admitted that Kurnool and Srikakulam are the poorest districts that needed special attention.
