Hyderabadis enjoy an unplanned holiday
HYDERABAD: Thanks to the Intensive Household Survey, residents of Hyderabad enjoyed an unexpected holiday on Tuesday. The survey brought a festive atmosphere to many families whose relatives arrived home after a long time.
The survey which was perceived as a long-drawn process earlier ended early as the enumerators did not take much time to note down the details. 'It took us only ten to fifteen minutes time to note down the details of each family,' said Sai Krishna, an enumerator who was assigned to Rajaka Colony at Lower Tank Bund.
'We needed only one member of the family to give the details. So we didn't ask the whole family to be present there. But almost all the family members were present at most of the houses,' he added.
Those who finished their survey early in the morning had the entire day to spend with their family. But they had no option but to stay home as shopping malls, movie theatres and parks were closed following the government orders.
The survey brought joy to many families. 'After almost six months all of our family members gathered at one place. Thanks to the government. It all happened because of the survey,' said Bharat Reddy, a bank employee from Dilsukhnagar.
Children and youth in the colonies found a great opportunity to spend quality time playing various sports while elders of the family were busy dealing with the survey. Streets became the playgrounds for the children.
People from other states who are studying and working in the city also found a chance explore the city while the locals were busy with the survey. The youth were seen enjoying the bike rides on empty roads.
'I wish the roads are like this everyday,' said Abhinav, a software engineer from Pune. The city looked completely different with empty flyover bridges and traffic-free roads. It was an ideal situation for the riders with no waiting at the traffic signals, he added.
