Akbar meets KCR, speculation over tie-up Hyderabad, Aug 25 (INN): A day after Congress party's announcement that it would go alone in the next GHMC elections, MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi on Monday called on Chief Minister and TRS Chief K Chandrasekhar Rao at latter's office in the State Secretariat.
During the meeting which lasted for about one hour, Akbar Owaisi and KCR are believed to have discussed possible alliance during the GHMC elections. Although both the parties refused to react on the meeting while describing it routine, sources say that the talks of a possible tie-up was initiated by the MIM leader.
The Chief Minister too has reportedly assured to nominate Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao and Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy to take the matter forward.
While both the parties maintained that the talk of an alliance was too premature as the GHMC is yet to conduct delimitation of municipal wards, reliable sources said that both MIM and TRS are keen to arrive at an understanding for the polls.
The TDP-BJP alliance has won sizeable number of seats in the last Assembly elections. Similarly, the TRS gave an impressive performance by winning a few seats in the GHMC limits.
Although the MIM has retained seven seats, it secured good number of votes in other constituencies like Jubilee Hills and Rajender Nagar. With the Congress party deciding to go alone, the MIM and TRS are afraid of division of their votes, especially in view of alliance between the TDP and BJP.
Sources say that the TRS and MIM leaders are likely to conduct many more meetings in near future to discuss a possible alliance.
