After KCR, lawmakers to visit Singapore HYDERABAD: Back from his visit to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is contemplating to translate Singapore's first Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew's book 'Singapore from Third World to First' into Telugu for the benefit Telugu speaking youth.
Chandrasekhar Rao, who said his visit to the city state of Singapore has left an indelible impression on him on how a country, though limited in size, could face trying times and grow into a an economic superpower on par with the United States.
Rao, who returned to Hyderabad in the early hours of Monday, shared the experiences of his four-day visit with his Cabinet and party colleagues. 'I am impressed with the rapid strides the country has made.
I want to send MPs, MLAs, MLCs and Zilla Parishad chairmen to Singapore to study the growth model there after the conclusion of the budget session of Telangana Assembly,' he said.
'It was impossible to miss the lush green cover Singapore has, The entire city is spic-and-span. Not even a piece of paper could be found anywhere on the roads,' Rao pointed out.
'Once Singapore had no drinking water and it had to import it from outside. But look at the transformation. A city state, which has only a population of 53 lakh, is able to attract 5.3 crore tourists every year. 'This country would stand as an eloquent testimony on growth to other countries,' he said.
He said the secret of Singapore's development lay in the participation of people in the government programmes. He attributed Singapore's success to first prime minister Lee Kuan Yew. 'I read his book in 1995. Now I could witness the development that the country achieved,' he said.
