Desapati Srinivas made OSD to CM KCR
HYDERABAD: Poet and singer Desapati Srinivas, who made an impact with his songs and speeches during Telangana movement, was made Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in Chief Minister's Office. Orders to this effect were issued on Tuesday.
Srinivas, who is at present working as a school assistant in Ibrahimnagar school in Chinna Kodur mandal of Medak district, has been made the OSD on deputation. He will look after education-related affairs.
A vocal supporter of separate Telangana State, Srinivas attended almost all the meetings during Telangana movement, particularly those attended by Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief K Chandrasekhar Rao. His songs, which are eloquent, were a rage at all major public meetings and rallies organised for separate Telangana State.
After formation of Telangana State, Desapati Srinivas had decided to concentrate his energies on the development of Telangana, particularly in education sector. He floated Telangana Vikasa Samithi in that direction. He is also president of Manjeera Rachayathala Sangham.
He said there are more number of school dropouts in Telangana, particularly in rural areas. Most of the farmers, who are poor and had to tend their lands bereft of irrigation facilities, need an extra hand to get enough crop to make a survival.
Invariably, they rely on their children to lend a helping hand, which results in dropping out of schools, he says and explains that only when better irrigation facilities are provided and economic conditions of the people is improved, the school dropout rate will come down.
He says the Chief Minister is already on that job and had also decided to change the perception of the people on the government schools by improving the system and also introducing a novel KG to PG free education system in Gurukul style where government will take care of every need and expenses incurred on children's education. He says he will do his best to bring about an effective change for strengthening the education sector in the State.
