Alignmnet change in Metro Rail to cost 400 crore
Hyderabad: The Telangana government would compensate for the additional cost to the tune of Rs 400 crore due to the proposed change in the corridor alignment of the metro rail project.
The L&T, which is executing the ambitious Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) project, will be compensated for the additional cost, HMR Managing Director N V S Reddy said.
The HMR has taken up a study to change the alignment at Assembly and Sultan Bazar as desired by the State government. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao suggested change in the alignment at Assembly and Sultan Bazar to conserve heritage sites.
'It is a minor deviation from the original design. Instead of going in front of Assembly, it can go from behind the Assembly. However, we are still working on it. The government's approval needs to come in this regard. The implications will be indicated to the government,' Reddy said.
The MD said that the study would be completed in one month, after which a report would be submitted to the government. 'The cost escalation has to be assessed. The L&T will also have its own figures. That will be evaluated and on that basis they will be compensated,' Reddy explained. The project cost was originally estimated at Rs 14,132 crore.
Hyderabad Metro Rail is the biggest urban infrastructure project being carried out under public-private partnership model. The elevated Metro rail will cover a total distance of 72 km spread over three corridors comprising 66 stations.
By March, 21, 2015, stage-I (eight km stretch from Nagole to Mettuguda) will be operational for which the test runs have already started.
Elaborating on the project, the official said the metro would have around 200 sky walks underneath the viaduct. The stations are designed in a unique manner and there would be a station exclusively for women at Madhuranagar totally managed by women officers.
From Bindi to Sari, everything would be made available in the stations. The stations would be linked with Rythu bazars and there would be two such stations one at Bharatnagar and another at Secunderabad near Old Gandhi hospital. The Secunderabad station would be linked to Monda Market at a nearby place. Till now, 21 coaches have arrived from the manufacturer.
