15 NTR canteens coming up in Vizag city
VISAKHAPATNAM : As the biggest city in the state, the government is aiming for comprehensive development of Visakhapatnam. The Port City is all set to house new projects in the ensuing days as promised by the new government.
The much awaited metro rail project will kick-start soon. NTR canteens, Neeru-chettu initiative, Namma toilets and other projects are ready to be initiated in the city, GVMC officials said, revealing the details of the programmes to be grounded.
The tenders for a detailed project report on the metro rail project had already been floated and the tender would be awarded to a renowned organisation, said GVMC commissioner MV Satyanarayana at a press meet here Monday.
With a motto to make the city green, the GVMC officials started planting saplings under the 'Neeru-chettu' programme. Till now they have planted 56,800 saplings and they aim to plant 1,50,000 saplings by October-end.
Satyanarayana said that HPCL, Steel Plant, NTPC and other PSUs had been extending their support by providing saplings. Apart from that, Namma toilets would be established at the NAD Junction, RK Beach, RTC complex and Railway station initially. Each toilet will be constructed at a cost of `15 lakh.
The toilets will be run on solar power, officials said. Training classes for women in the leadership qualities would be started through MEPMA.
Women from zones 1 and 6 of the city would be trained in the first phase by around 90 trainers from Hyderabad. The Telugu Desam Party's (TDP) much hyped NTR canteens are to be established in large numbers in the city.
While 35 NTR canteens are going to be set up in the entire state, 15 are to be opened in the city alone.
