Survey of corridors connecting city to begin HYDERABAD: For taking up a 'strategic road development programme' for the city, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation will conduct a detailed survey of certain crucial road stretches from Monday.
Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao suggested to take up as many as eight corridors on a priority. The consultants will prioritise the identified roads which are easy to execute.
The engineering wing of the municipal corporation, with the help of private consultants, will carry out the survey of all the identified road corridors and junctions, duly indicating the available right of way (RoW) with level at the junctions.
The exercise will be completed in a week's time. Lea Associates will prepare the preliminary designs basing on the survey inputs by GHMC to bid for the project.
The corridors suggested by the chief minister are Uppal Junction to Sangeet Junction via Mettuguda; Biodiversity Junction at Gachibowli to JNTU Junction in Kukatpally; Ambedkar Statue (Tank Bund) to Afzalgunj; Abids Junction to Chaderghat Junction via Koti; Habsiguda to IDA Mallapur via Nacharam; Hayathnagar to Nalgonda Crossroads; Chaderghat-Putlibowli-Jambagh-Moazzam Jahi Market-Ek Minar Junction-Nampally; and Puranapul to Aramghar Junction via Zoo Park in Bahadurpura.
The chief minister suggested improvement of eight other junctions for hassle-free traffic movement: Koti, RTC Crossroads, Secunderabad, Uppal, LB Nagar, Chaderghat, Putlibowli and Bahadurpura.
Development of the eight corridors will cost the GHMC between `4,000 crore and `5,000 crore.
The survey will enable the GHMC to know how much right of way is available on the eight stretches and the requirement, if any, for road-widening, skywalks, flyovers or elevated corridors, etc.
