Blaze in farms in capital region turns a political row Hyderabad, Dec 29 (INN): Several farmers in five villages of Guntur district lost their standing crops and other farm utilities after they were allegedly set ablaze by some miscreants.
The farm utilities were set ablaze in the same pattern in Penamaka, Undavalli, Venkatapalem, Uddamrayinipalem and Mandadam villages on Sunday night. These villages fall in the region where the new capital of Andhra Pradesh is proposed to be established.
Incidentally, the farmers who lost crops have been opposing the land pooling and refused to part with their lands for the new capital. The mystery fire cause heavy damage to paddy stacks, banana orchards, horticulture crops and huts.
The Guntur Rural police have formed special search teams to nab the culprits. It is suspected that a psycho must be behind the incident. However, some villagers have alleged a larger conspiracy and contended that the farmers who opposed land pooling were selectively targeted. The YSR Congress Party condemned the incident and demanded a high-level probe.
