Shobhana, Sivamani to open Visakha Utsav VISAKHAPATNAM: Adding to the buzz and excitement surrounding the much-anticipated Visakha Utsav-2015, VUDA in-charge vice-chairman and Utsav convener MV Seshagiri Babu said that the organising committee of the Utsav has decided to conduct competitions on the development of mobile apps for college students. Experts from the field of information technology would conduct the competitions, he added.
The convener held a review meeting with various sub-committees of Visakha Utsav-2015. Speaking at the meeting, Seshagiri Babu has revealed that the competitions would be conducted on the aspects of Visakha Utsav and highlights of Visakhapatnam.
Chairman of Cultural Committee and project director of DRDA V Satya Sai Srinivas said that renowned dancer and actress Shobhana and popular drummer Sivamani would perform at the cultural event on the first day of the Utsav. He directed the publicity committee members to draft pamphlets on the events being held at the Utsav and promote it in a big way.
He asked all the sub-committee members to finalise their action plans in the next three days and directed the RTC and Tourism officials to announce Utsav package tours. Food courts would be set up at the venues of the Utsav introducing various cuisines from across the country, he added.
DCP Ramgopal Naik, Additional Joint Collector D Venkata Reddy, VUDA secretary GC Kishore, CEO ZP Maheswara Reddy and several other officials were presnet. Earlier, the convener of Utsav held discussions with various cultural associations and school managements and discussed their participation in the event.
An opportunity will be given to the children to showcase their talents in various cultural activities at the Utsav. Teams from government and private schools, dance and music institutions can participate in Visakha Utsav events. The cultural events include classical, folk and western dances, dance ballets, magic and mimicry, group singing and short humour plays, Seshagiri Babu informed.
Teams of children will be given the opportunity to perform on the stages of Visakha Utsav venues at VUDA Park, Kailasagiri and Gurajada Kalakshetram, he added. Schools, dance and music institutions interested in taking part in the programmes can forward the details of their performances.
