AP, TS fail to reach accord on Sagar water HYDERABAD: Irrigation officials of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana could not arrive at a consensus on sharing of Krishna water from the Nagarjunasagar project for the Rabi season.
Though the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) will decide the release of water, officials of the two states sat together to resolve the issue amicably before the board's meeting.
The board had directed the two states to come to an understanding before the KRMB meeting so that it could order release of water for the next crop season without much difficulty.
As a result, the principal secretaries of irrigation, engineers-in-chief and other officials held a meeting.
According to sources, Telangana wanted 115 tmcft of water for agriculture and also for drinking till August. AP officials said release of that volume would not be possible as AP required around 200 tmcft for Krishna delta and for the NSP right canal ayacut.
At present, NSP has a water level of 552.7 ft and a storage of 215.77 tmcft which is not sufficient for the needs of the two states. As the officials could not reach an understanding, the matter would be placed before the KRBM.
The Godavari River Management Board (GWMB) will meet at Jala Soudha to discuss contentious issues between the two states.
