Ekasila to replace Nandi awards for films HYDERABAD: The TRS government is keen on bringing Telangana flavour to the largely Andhra-dominated film industry in Hyderabad. Accordingly, it has decided to rename the annual Nandi awards, given by the State government to artistes and technicians for their outstanding contribution to Telugu cinema.
'The Chief Minister is considering two-three names to replace the Nandi. The name, Ekasila, is under active consideration,' Cinematography Minister Talasani Srinivasa Yadav said here.
The minister, who held a meeting with representatives of the film chamber here earlier in the day, also said the government will hold a meeting with artistes, producers, directors and technicians in January.
'The date is not yet finalised. KCR will also meet representatives of Tollywood,' he said. The meetings aim to promote Tollywood in Hyderabad.
It's pertinent to note that in the immediate aftermath of the division of AP, there were rumours of an 'impending' move by Tollywood to shift base to Andhra. Referring to them, Yadav said, 'The film industry has got confidence in the past six months that the TRS government will maintain law and order and provide safety and security to the industry.'
He said actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna and Chiranjeevi had already met Rao and extended full cooperation for the further development of film industry in Hyderabad. Talasani said the Telangana government would encourage low-budget and message-oriented movies.
