AP, TS stick to their guns on Eamcet HYDERABAD: A day after the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education sparked a fresh row by releasing common schedule for entrance tests like Eamcet, Icet and Lawcet for both AP and Telangana, education ministers of both the states indicated that there will not be any change in their stand on the examinations.
Both AP human resources development minister Ganta Srinivas Rao and TS education minister G Jagadish Reddy took the issue to governor ESL Narasimhan and sought his intervention. Ganta contended that there should be a common examination while Jagadish Reddy wanted the exams to be conducted separately for both the states.
Ganta reportedly requested the governor to intervene in the issue and help AP to conduct the common exams. Addressing the media after meeting the governor, Ganta said 'Common Eamcet will be conduced for both the states and AP has the right to conduct them.' The minister further said that he would discuss the issue with AP chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu before taking a final decision.
Around the same time, Jagadish Reddy who was attending a diary release function said, 'Whatever stand we have taken for Intermediate exams, we will adhere to the same decision for Eamcet too,' he said.
Saying that the exams would be conducted according to the guidelines of AP Reorganisation Act, Reddy blamed the AP government for the ongoing controversy. 'Differences should be sorted out cordially.
However, AP government is stubborn in its decision and wants to conduct common examinations,' he stated. He also repeated his statement about the admission for non-local students and said, 'They can still apply for 15 percent seats reserved for them.'
Jagadish Reddy too met the governor and apprised the latter about the stand of the Telangana government.
