APSRTC still in red, incurs Rs 1,300 Cr loss HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) has incurred a loss of about Rs 1,300 cr in AP and Telangana during 2014 though there has been an increase in occupancy ratio slightly.
'APSRTC incurred losses of about Rs 899 crore in AP and Rs 417 crore in Telangana in 2014, while occupancy ratio rose from 68.5 to 70 in AP and 69.34 to 69.82 in Telangana,' said APSRTC vice chairman and managing director J Purnachandra Rao at a press conference in Hyderabad.
Interim relief of about 27 per cent to the tune of Rs 385 crore was disbursed to APSRTC employees and 17,000 contract employees were regularised. In spite of losses, several new buses were introduced and new initiatives taken to increase revenue, explained J Purnachandra Rao.
According to him, for the APSRTC, which was incurring heavy losses, decrease in diesel prices came as a great relief, as it saved Rs 35.64 crore in AP and Rs 27.37 in Telangana on fuel.
The management pruned bus services on non-viable routes and was planning a slew of measures aimed at reducing the fuel consumption. Bus services on routes with less than 65 per cent occupancy ratio have been pruned.
As many as 105 buses were taken off the road in several non-viable routes and Rs 11.52 crore was saved. APSRTC is also planning 'vehicle scheduling' so that there is gap between services and perfect distribution of buses on routes.
