Telangana alleges injustice in Krishna water share Hyderabad, Jan 3 (INN): Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao on Saturday alleged that injustice was done to the Telangana State in the distribution of Krishna River water.
As per the Bachawat Tribunal Award, the Telangana was allocated 229 TMC while Andhra Pradesh was given 281 TMC. While Telangana used only 170 TMC of water, AP utilised about 321 TMC.
Despite using excess water, the Andhra Pradesh Government has written a letter to the Krishna Tribunal to stop release of allocated water for Telangana, alleged Harish Rao while demanding that the water should be distributed as per the decided ratio.
Harish Rao also criticised the silence of Telangana TDP leaders over the injustices being done to Telangana by TDP Government in AP. Asking the T-TDP leaders to speak up against their party's government, he warned that people would teach them a fitting lesson if they continue to maintain silence.
The Minister also expressed concern over the AP Government's proposal to raise the height of Polavaram Dam by 30 feet. He said the present height of 150 feet would submerge seven mandals and further increase in height by 30 feet would lead to the submersion of Bhadrachalam's Sri Ram Temple.
He claimed that even Orissa and Chhattisgarh were opposed to the increase in Polavaram Dam's height. Asking the AP Government to keep the interest of neighbouring States in mind while making proposals, he said that the Telangana Government would approach the Centre and even the Supreme Court, if required, on the issue.
