Nine villages oppose land acquisition HYDERABAD: At a time when the Andhra Pradesh government began the process of procurement of land for the new capital through a land pooling system, villagers of nine out of the 29 villages of the capital region are gearing up to agitate against the alleged forcible acquisition of their land, besides planning to move the court.
Civil societies, NGOs and local people are planning to constitute local committees to take up agitation and organise padayatras in the capital region to create awareness about the ill-effects of the land pooling system and the hidden agenda of the government and the corporate bodies.
A round table meeting on Greenfield capital for AP was organised by National Alliance of People's Movements (NAPM) here, in which prominent persons such as former chief election commissioner JM Lyngdoh, Ex-Administrator-cum-Estate Officer of Chandigarh MG Devasahayam and former Supreme Court judge Justice P Lakshman Reddy took part. Speakers from civil societies and NGOs were also present.
The meeting decided to fight against the forcible land acquisition in the capital region. They also decided to take the matter to the notice of the Court and take up campaign against the land pooling.
Participants also decided to criticise even Singapore and Japan governments for being part of the government's efforts to take fertile lands through social media.
Former IAS officer MG Devasahayam described the AP Capital Region Development Authority(APCRDA) Act as anti-constitutional. According to him, the Act was against the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013.
