AgriGold offices come under depositors' wrath VISAKHAPATNAM/SRIKAKULAM: Tension mounted at the offices of Agri Gold Business Ventures across north Coastal Andhra region as the depositors continued their protests demanding payment of their money.
Heated arguments between the company staff and depositors apart from dharnas were witnessed at most of these offices in Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam, forcing the police to intervene and disperse the crowds.
At many places, the staff have shutdown the offices and fled from angry protestors. The Agri Gold offices at Jagadamba junction, Gajuwaka in Visakhapatnam city along with those at Anakapalle, Narsipatnam, and other places in the district, saw a large number of depositors barging into the offices and demanding that their money be returned immediately.
They lamented that the company has failed to repay the matured deposits since July 2013. Even the cheques which the authorities have provided have bounced, leaving the depositors anxious and frustrated.
In some areas, the public entered into heated arguments with the cops, especially at the Gajuwaka branch where a fire accident occurred a few days ago. The depositors suspect that the company staff themselves burnt down the office to destroy the documents and other records related to the deposit details.
The police raided some branches including Anakapalle and Narsipatnam in Visakhapatnam district, Parvatipuram and Vizianagaram in Vizianagaram district and Srikakulam and seized documents and other records.
In Srikakulam district, a large number of depositors staged a dharna at the Agri Gold branch on the Government Arts College road after rumours spread about closure of the offices. Police too, were deployed to examine the documents and seize them, apart from preventing any violence.
During the same time, chaos reigned at the Agri Gold offices in Vizianagaram and Parvathipuram with depositors getting into verbal duels with the police, who tried to control them during their agitation. The police are on constant vigil to avoid further violence.
