Telangana be allowed to conduct EAMCET: Shabbir Ali
Hyderabad, Jan 6 (INN): Deputy CLP leader in Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir on Tuesday demanded that the Telangana State Council for Higher Education (TSCHE) be allowed to conduct EAMCET on its own.
Speaking to media persons in Assembly premises here, Shabbir Ali condemned the Andhra Pradesh Government for raising objection to conduct of EAMCET by TSCHE for the students of Telangana.
The AP Government should accept the reality that the State is bifurcated and Telangana is now a separate State. Therefore, it should now stop interfering in the affairs of Telangana and concentrate on the welfare of AP students.
Shabbir Ali urged Governor ESL Narasimhan and the Union Government to intervene on the issue and take a final decision on immediate basis. The Governor and Centre should assess whether or not the TSCHE is capable of conducting the EAMCET and other CETs on its own. If yes, then it should reject the objections being raised by AP Government.
The Congress leader said that the tussle between the two States had badly hurt the interest of Telangana students last year. Therefore, the ongoing controversy should be put to an end to ensure that the Telangana students are not left confused.
Shabbir Ali also slammed the State Government for non-implementation of FAST (Financial Assistance for Students of Telangana) scheme. He said instead of "FAST", the scheme should be renamed as "SLOW" in view of snail-paced progress on its implementation.
He said the delay in implementation of the scheme was creating several problems for the parents. Citing an instance of Rajampet village of Biknoor mandal of Nizamabad district, he said a person, who was already upset over denial of physically handicapped pension, committed suicide after a college management asked him to pay fee for his daughter as it was not getting reimbursement under FAST scheme from the government.
The Congress leader asked Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to expedite the implementation of FAST.
