Foundation for Capital in January
TULLUR (GUNTUR): Construction of the new Capital City of Andhra Pradesh will be completed in three years' time and the works will commence by the end of June once the Singapore firm that was entrusted with the task of preparing Master Plan for the Capital submits its report, said P Narayana, Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development.
Speaking to mediapersons during his visit to villages in Tullur mandal for interacting with farmers following issue of notifications for land pooling, Narayana said the foundation stone for the new capital would be laid on an auspicious day.
The objective is to build a city, which is not just political and administrative capital, but also a socio-economic and cultural capital of the state. 'We want to develop a capital that will be the pride of the State and envy of others. It will be a world number one city,' the minister said.
He said Tullur was selected for the Capital City given its central location and proximity to Krishna River. The capital city will be spread on both sides of the river, he clarified.
According to him, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is likely to invite Singapore's Second Minister for Home Affairs S Iswaran during his visit to the State to visit Tullur on June 13 and 14. However, the final call on it has not been taken yet.
Not to wait till the completion of the capital city, the government had decided to have a temporary capital constructed near Amaravati and suitable location is being identified for the purpose.
The foundation stone for it will be laid in the last week of January or first week of February. A building to house various administrative wings will be ready by June-end, Narayana informed. He claimed that farmers are willing to part with their lands for the capital city and are coming voluntarily to hand over passbooks.
