Overcrowding caused the bus accident ANANTAPUR: While the exact cause of the APSRTC bus plunge into a gorge killing 15 passengers near Penukonda in Anantapur district on Wednesday morning is being investigated, it would appear that overcrowding could have caused it.
As per the list of passengers released by the district administration on Thursday, a total of 89 passengers were travelling in the bus at the time of the accident. Of the 89 passengers, 15 were listed as killed in the incident and the remaining as undergoing treatment at various hospitals.
It said that while 45 of the injured were under treatment at the Anantapur government hospital, five were admitted in the Kurnool government hospital, 15 in NIMHANS Hospital, six in KIMS Hospital and one each in Victoria Hospital and Baptist Hospital - all in Bangalore.
