Shah sets 45 lakh membership target in AP VIJAYAWADA: BJP national president Amit Shah has set a target of enrolling 45 lakh members in the state, where the party wants to expand and strengthen its base. However, he has made it clear that it will not be at the cost of the party's alliance with the ruling TDP.
Addressing newsmen here after attending the party's state core committee meeting, Shah said that the people of the state had given a joint mandate for the BJP and the TDP. 'As BJP chief, it is my duty to expand and strengthen the party. It will be done in a positive manner but without affecting our alliance with the TDP', he stressed.
Clarifying that there were no differences or rift with the TDP, the saffron party chief reiterated that both the parties would together strive for the development of the country and the state.
He said that the two parties intended to expand their respective bases in Andhra Pradesh on the basis of their ideological strength and leadership. 'Whoever believes in the BJP's ideals / ideologies is welcome to join the party', he said and added that the party's goal was to enrol 10 crore members both physically and online.
On being asked about the TDP's objections to the BJP admitting some of its former ministers and MPs, Amit Shah's curt reply was that it was for the BJP to decide whom to admit into the party and not for the TDP to do so.
Asked if BJP wanted to go it alone in the 2019 Assembly and general elections in the state, he said it was too early to comment on it. 'It is neither the correct time nor the occasion for comment on it. The BJP and the TDP are allies and are working together in both the State and the Centre', he said.
