5 million IT jobs this year to support Big Data VISAKHAPATNAM: Keeping in view the increasing career opportunities in Indian big data industry, a new three-year undergraduate programme in business analytics will be offered at GITAM University with effect from the academic year of 2015-16.
The focus will be on producing professionals in the fields of data sciences, big data and business analytics. In addition to Bachelors in Business Analytics (BBA), the university is already offering BBA (Management Accounting) and BCom (honours).
GITAM vice-chancellor G Subrahmanyam told mediamen here that the Indian big data industry was expected to grow into a billion dollar industry in the coming years and requires huge manpower to meet the increasing demands in the fields of data sciences, big data and business analytics.
'After thoroughly studying the situation and future needs, we have prepared a comprehensive syllabus to conduct the programme from the ensuing academic year 2015-16. Very few universities in the world are offering the programme and we are the first to start such a course in India,' he claimed.
According to him, some recent studies revealed that there will be around five million IT jobs by 2015 to support big data and subsequent demand for experts in business analytics.
There were very few varsities in the world offering business analytics at undergraduate level.
'The new undergraduate programme is a timely and contemporary programme to train the future human resources. In addition, we are offering MBA in human resource management with practice school,' he added.
GITAM Institute of Management principal K Sivarama Krishna said that the institute was conducting the online admission test to admit students for undergradutae and postgraduate programmes. The admission notification will be released shortly.
Candidates seeking admission into the courses must undergo a group discussion and personal interview.
