Ponnala likely to quit as PCC chief Hyderabad: Following the demand for reshuffle of the Congress party central leadership, appeals for the change of Telangana Congress Committee president are gaining momentum and several leaders have thrown their hat into the ring for the PCC president's post.
The party high command is seriously considering change of guard in the State and waiting for an opportune time. The change might take place by end of March this year.
Sources in the Congress informed that PCC president Ponnala Laxmaiah made up his mind to quit office and requested the high command to provide a decent exit from the office of PCC president.
Reportedly, Laxmaiah requested the high command to facilitate him in the Legislative Council or in the central leadership as general secretary in recognition of his services to the party.
He conveyed to the party central leadership that he was unable to bear the monitory burden of the party and was ready to quit. Congress sources said the high command is searching for a leader who could run the party till 2018.
Sections of the state Congress are of the view that Laxmaiah was unable to get the support of important leaders of the party in fighting against the ruling TRS.
They have also pointed out that no monitory support is being provided to Laxmaiah forcing to spend from his own pocket. Party sources said that running the party would become difficult if the financial woes continue. Leaders like G Vivek, D Sridhar Babu and KR Suresh Reddy have evinced interest to lead the party.
