TPCC finalises agenda for 3-day session from Jan 20

Hyderabad, Jan 17 (INN): The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee on Saturday finalised the agenda for the three-day meeting being held from January 20 to 22nd to discuss and finalise the strategy to strengthen the party in Telangana State.

Briefing the media persons after the meeting of TPCC office bearers at Gandhi Bhavan here on Saturday, TPCC Vice-President Mohammed Ali Shabbir said that the meeting, chaired by TPCC president Ponnala Lakshmaiah, has finalised 11 talking points for the three-day session.

All senior leaders including present and former office bearers, MPs and legislators, have been divided into eight groups of 16 members each.

These groups would participate in discussions on specific agenda for two hours each. They would be giving their suggestions orally or in written form. These sessions would be attended by AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh and other Central leaders.

The group discussions would be held for two days on January 20 and 21st. On the third day, on January 22nd, Digvijay Singh will meet intellectuals and other personalities from different sections of the society to elicit their views and suggestions on how to strengthen the Congress party in Telangana State.

Shabbir Ali informed that the TPCC has also reviewed the status of ongoing membership drive in the State. Stating that the Congress party has been receiving tremendous response for the membership drive, he said so far, as against the target of 20 lakh members, nearly 19.21 lakh membership forms were distributed in 10 districts of Telangana. Of them, about 14 lakh members have already been enrolled and their data is being computerised.

Various DCCs have sent the computerised data of nearly 4.5 lakh members to the party headquarters at Gandhi Bhavan along with membership fee of Rs 5/- each.

In view of the tremendous response, the TPCC has decided to extend the membership drive till February end and the target has been increased to 35 lakh members across Telangana State.

He said on completion of membership drive, the entire data would be computerised and CDs would be sent to the AICC Headquarters for issuing of Identity Cards to all members.

The TPCC has also discussed the preparations for next GHMC elections. Shabbir Ali said that the party would organise division-wise meetings from January last week. Besides focussing on intensifying membership drive in GHMC limits, workers' meetings would be held at division-levels and also the process of selection of best candidates would be initiated, he said.

Shabbir Ali said that the Congress workers would be briefed on how the party, during its rule from 2004 to 2014, has developed GHMC into the 'Must See Destination' of the world.

By spending over Rs 1 lakh crore to build infrastructure like Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, 11-KM PVNR Express Way and 160-KM long Nehru ORR Ring, the Congress regime proved to be a Golden Decade for the GHMC.

Following request from the Delhi Congress, the TPCC has decided to send a team of leaders from Hyderabad to campaign in Delhi elections in areas dominated by Telugu speaking people.

The TPCC office-bearers' meeting was also attended by Leader of the Opposition K Jana Reddy, TPCC Working President Uttam Kumar Reddy and other leaders.
