KCR to dine with 100 pharma CEOs HYDERABAD: Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao will have a luncheon meeting with around 100 heads of pharmaceutical companies from various countries here on Friday and will invite them to invest in the state in the pharma sector. The state government has earmarked 10,000 acres on the city's outskirts for developing a pharma city.
Rao will explain to the CEOs of pharma companies about the initiatives to develop the pharma sector and the pharma city. He will also explain the new industrial policy, the single-window clearing system and the incentives being offered to industrialists.
The dinner is being arranged as part of the 66th Indian Pharmaceutical Congress being held in the city from Friday. Around 6,000 delegates from pharmaceutical companies, several CEOs, including 100 from abroad and around 30 to 40 from drug regulatory bodies from the UK, France and other countries too will attend the conference.
Telangana once led other states in pharma exports in the country but slipped to third place, according to sources in the industry. The chief minister's initiative to join the CEOs for lunch will help Telangana regain first place in the pharma sector. Hyderabad is still a major hub of pharma and leading bulk drug supplier to the world.
Special chief secretary (industries) K Pradeep Chandra said the Pharmaceutical Congress would also discuss the regulations in the wake of several drugs produced in the country being rejected in other countries in the past three years.
The industry will interact with the regulatory authorities to know their requirements to manufacture drugs as per international norms. Earlier, industries minister Jupally Krishna Rao had told reporters that conduct of Pharmaceutical Congress in the city would help development of the sector in the state. Representatives of pharma industry have recently called on the chief minister and were impressed with his initiatives.
'I have bought one acre for Rs 1 crore in Dehradun to set up a unit. But, the chief minister assured us that land rates here would not be commercialised and industry will get lands at reasonable cost. This approach will help develop industry in Telangana,' IPA past president JAS Giri said.
