OU may not admit those aged above 25 HYDERABAD: Osmania University will not allow any student aged above 25 years to join any of its courses from the upcoming year. 'We have many students aged above 25 years who are pursuing their Ph.Ds. Most of them lack clarity in their academics. Therefore, from the next batch, we will focus on making them more employable and get them jobs rather than enrol them in further academic programmes,' E Suresh Kumar, the university's new registrar, has said.
'The age group between 25 and 35 is the most productive phase. We feel that those students should not waste their time on the campus but contribute to society,' he felt.
To increase students' employability, the Equal Opportunities Cell of the university will be holding training classes to be conducted by Dr V Nagesh, psychologist and personality development trainer.
The classes will be run under the aegis of Human Rights and Duties Education developed by the University Grants Commission. Starting Friday, the sessions will be held at various auditoriums in the city twice a month.
Such training sessions had been conducted by the Centre for English Language Training and Equal Opportunities Cell earlier.
Refuting the charge that the university, once the nerve-centre of movement for Telangana statehood, was beset with falling standards, he said, 'There is a common notion among people that there has been no academic activity in the university after the formation of the state. But it is not true. Even when the agitation was at its peak, we conducted classes.'
