Encroachments on Krishna river banks to go
VIJAYAWADA: The Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) will take action if any constructions that have come up right on the bank of the Krishna river were violative of the provisions of the River Conservation Act.
CRDA special commissioner N Srikanth said: 'Irrigation department is at present making a survey of the encroachments on the Krishna river bank and whether they have any permissions or not. Once the survey is over and the provisions of the River Conservation Act are studied, a decision on action would be taken.'
Recently, irrigation minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao ordered a survey of all the posh resorts, guest houses and fitness centres that have come up on the Krishna river bank and asked the officials to see if they have any permission. He in fact asked the irrigation SEs of Guntur and Krishna districts to make joint inspection of the encroachments.
The CRDA special commissioner evaded a reply on whether it was proper for the BJP to construct a building on the river bank and whether a Union minister could perform bhoomi pooja. 'I am not aware of any union minister doing bhoomi pooja,' he said.
Meanwhile, in Hyderbad, sources said that pace of land acquisition through land pooling has slowed down. Though about 30,000 acres of land was proposed to be acquired by the third week of January, only 7,500 acres had been acquired. The officials hope that by the end of January, another 2,500 acres would be acquired.
Sources said that the CRDA has requested for 37 officials in the cadre of deputy collectors and even the government issued orders posting 37 of them. However, only 19 have reported to CRDA so far.
'Between Jan 22 and 24, the government was able to pool over 1,000 acres of land per day. But it came down to less than 500 acres on Jan 26 & 27 affecting the entire land pooling process. On an average 300 acres of land pooling per day is being done,' the sources added.
