Dry port to come up on Hyderabad suburbs HYDERABAD:The state government will establish a dry port, possibly at Patancheru on the outskirts of the city or at Kottur in Mahbubnagar district. As there is no sea port in the state, the state government is actively considering the proposal to establish a dry port, so as to facilitate the industrialists in the state with good export options.
Sources in the government said that a consultant suggested Patancheru or Kotturu as suitable locations for setting up of the dry port. Both the places are well connected with railway lines and the exporters can easily transport their cargo from dry port to sea port in Andhra Pradesh.
Experts suggested that around 100 acres of land is needed for the dry port. Apart from storage facility, cold storage and administrative office will be located in the dry port.
As most of the industries are located in and around Patancheru, the government is considering this place for establishing the dry port. Kottur is also under consideration in the wake of huge industrial clusters coming up there, sources said.
After the bifurcation of the state, Telangana state has no sea port facility. If the dry port is set up in the state, it will give all the required permissions for exports and collect customs duty.
Moreover, it will also be helpful to small and medium investors, as they cannot book a container on their own and cannot not wait for days together for container at sea port. All the goods belonging to various exports will be packed in a single container at the dry port and it would be sent to sea port for exports, sources said.
As the customs clearances will be given at dry port itself, they need not wait at the sea port. The branches of Container Corporation of India are available in the city and the government will also utilise their services for the dry port.
