Metro Rail extension to cover IT corridor Hyderabad: Traffic woes of techies are likely to end soon as the government has decided to extend corridor-III of the Hyderabad Metro Rail to the IT corridor (till Mindspace in Raidurg).
According to sources, enough right-of-way exists from Hitec City to Raidurg and since no issues have been found in the acquisition of properties, HMR authorities are working on a plan to extend Metro Rail to the IT corridor. It has been learnt that officials are preparing reports on the Raidurg terminal designs and parking and circulation areas.
The ambitious Rs 16,000-crore project aims at decongesting traffic in the city. The first stage of the project from Nagole to Mettuguda, a stretch of 8 km, is slated to be inaugurated on the occasion of Ugadi in March.
Earlier, corridor-III was to be between Nagole and Shilparamam but now officials are busy making proposals for extending the Metro from Shilparamam to Raidurg.
It had been decided that space at HICC cross roads would be used for parking Metro trains, but as the place was adjacent to a lake authorities took up a survey to divert the metro from Shilparamam to the IT corridor.
The extension of this corridor would mean an addition of 1.2 km. The government has decided to provide 31.5 acre land to L&T for parking, circulation area and also for the terminal, sources said. Once the metro gets connected to the IT corridor, techies will benefit the most as there are over 1,200 IT companies in the IT corridor and around 1.20 lakh employees work here.
Techies who until now used private vehicles and cab services can soon use Metro Rail to reach their destination. Metro authorities will work out plans for taking metro as there is Cyber Towers at one side and flyover on the other side. They will soon present a report to the government in this regard.
