Congress to hold padayatra over shifting of Secretariat HYDERABAD: Reiterating that chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is running the government with 'blind beliefs,' TPCC chief Ponnala Laxmaiah said his party will take out a padayatra to Raj Bhavan protesting the move to shift the Secretariat in the name of vaasthu. The TPCC is also opposing the shifting of Chest Hospital to Vikarabad, as it would pose a major problem to poor patients.
The padayatra will be taken out on February 7, Ponnala said at a press conference here on Thursday. He said that Rao, despite objections from various quarters, is going ahead with his plans to shift the Secretariat and Chest Hospital.
The padayatra will start from Gandhi Bhavan at 10 a.m. After paying tributes to the Martyr's Memorial, the rally will proceed to Raj Bhavan through Khairatabad. Later, a delegation will meet Governor ESL Narasimhan to urge him to stop the government going ahead shifting of Chest Hospital and the Secretariat.
''The move to shift Secretariat and Chest Hospital and to raze down Ravindra Bharathi is not out of love for Hyderabad but they are taken in view of the coming elections to GHMC,'' Laxmaiah alleged.
Chest Hospital JAC submits memorandum to Bandaru
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Chest Hospital submitted a representation to Union minister of state for labour and employment Bandaru Dattatreya, requesting him that the hospital should not be shifted from Hyderabad.
Members of the JAC reasoned that it is a tertiary care hospital serving patients from the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and that it is ideal if the hospital is located in the city. Stating that population in the city has grown by leaps and bounds, the JAC said there is a need to serve crores of population in Hyderabad, and Telangana state on the whole.
