7-hr power to farmers from next year: KCR HYDERABAD: The state government is planning to supply seven hours power to the farm sector in a single spell during day time from next year. Now, the power being supplied to agriculture sector is erratic and is supplied in two spells. Farmers may have to face some minor problems in the Rabi season this year too.
But, the state would be able to supply seven hours power to farmers during day in a single spell from 2016. Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said this at a detailed review on power sector at the Secretariat here on Wednesday.
The state government has set an ambitious target of generating 24,000 MW power by the end of 2018 with an intention to supply 24X7 power to domestic sector. The state should become power surplus by 2018, the chief minister told officials.
KCR held a detailed review with the officials of energy sector. At the meeting, the chief minister set a target of generating a total 24,000 MW power which includes 21,350 MW thermal power. The current demand for power in the state was 6,000 MW, but it was able to generate only 4,300 MW.
The state government is hopeful that by the end of this year, 2,000 MW additional power would be available through the ongoing power plants and also from its share from central generating stations (CGS).
Rao said that 1,000 MW power to be purchased from Chhattisgarh would flow into state in 2016. Around 1,080 MW Singareni power too would be available. In all, the state will have 8,500 MW power.
